Who Qualifies for TDIU?

There are two paths to TDIU. You may qualify even if you don't think you do.

Most Common

Schedular TDIU

You may qualify if:

  • ✓ You have one service-connected disability rated at 60% or higher
  • ✓ OR two or more disabilities with a combined rating of 70%+ (at least one rated 40%+)
  • ✓ AND your disabilities prevent you from maintaining substantially gainful employment

This is the standard path. If you meet these percentages, the focus shifts to proving you can't work.

Don't Count Yourself Out

Extraschedular TDIU

Even if you don't meet the rating percentages above, you may still qualify if:

  • ✓ Your disabilities genuinely prevent you from working, regardless of your combined rating
  • ✓ You have strong vocational evidence supporting your inability to maintain employment
  • ✓ Your case is referred to the VA's Director of Compensation for special consideration
